The international choir contest “Golden Voices of Barcelona“, which took place from 8 to 12 July 2018, created a magnificent canvas of bright colors and unique shades of voices.
The choir participants from Georgia, China, Russia, Puerto Rico, Austria and Reunion island, the overseas region of France, were to immerse themselves in the intensive program of the festival: a contest, a gala concert and a performance in the 14th-century cathedral of Santa Maria del Pi in Barcelona.
The contest was held in the city theater of Lloret de Mar. The jury was headed by Heidi Anita Brathagen, the professional conductor and choirmaster from Norway. She evaluated the participants’ performances and with admiration, she listened to the singing of the choirs, who could take a clean chord for two, three, four and even eight voices!
After the contest, Heidi held a master class for the song “Lean on me” by Bill Whithers, which they sang together the next evening at the gala concert. This touching composition, performed in the best traditions of choral singing, brought tears to the spectators’ eyes. A beautiful and bright gala concert got the locals excited. Each performance was accompanied by a relentless squall of applause. In the same solemn atmosphere, the award ceremony was held.
The next day, all the choirs went on an excursion to Barcelona, where the same evening their stunning performances took place in the Gothic cathedral of Santa Maria del Pi. This event made the participants stand in awe. They got real pleasure from the opportunity to become part of a great history: they didn’t sing, but their souls sang …
Golden Voices of Barcelona is more than a choral singing contest, it’s the way to achieve high art, it’s the event that gives birth to international creative unions and enriches the culture of the whole world.
