Report of “Sea Sun Festival”, “Beauty of the Costa Brava” & “Mediterranean Legends”  (April–May, 2025)

From April 30 to May 5, the beautiful coastal town of Lloret de Mar once again became the vibrant heart of international creativity, hosting a trio of festivals: the Sea Sun Festival, the visual arts event Beauty of the Costa Brava, and the travel program Mediterranean Legends, which included excursions across Spain, France, Monaco, and Italy. Sea Sun Festival – A Celebration of Diverse Art Forms

The Sea Sun Festival is known for its rich, multi-genre program, which offers a platform to a wide spectrum of performers — from dancers and vocalists to musicians, original genre artists, and representatives of fine and applied arts. This year’s edition was no exception, with a stunning variety of talent on display from across the world.

Artistic Morning – En Plein Air & Masterclass

The competition day began early with a special session for the ART category. Visual artists participated in a plein-air watercolor masterclass, held at one of the city’s most iconic landmarks — the Castle of Lloret de Mar, nestled on the picturesque Mediterranean coastline.

The participants worked in sketchbooks, learning advanced watercolor techniques. At the end of the session, three outstanding works were recognized as the best of the day:

  • Rushana Sagdullaeva
  • Marjona Gozikulova
  • Asilbek Xamraqulov

The winners received professional artist brush sets as special gifts from the festival organizers.

May 1 – International Stage at Lloret Theatre

On May 1, International Workers’ Day, the main stage of the Lloret de Mar Municipal Theatre welcomed participants from 13 countries who came to celebrate creativity and showcase their talents. The theatre lobby was transformed into a beautiful gallery displaying paintings, sculptures, applied artworks, and architectural models, impressing both the audience and the jury.

Music and Vocal Showcase

While the jury evaluated the art exhibits, the theatre stage came alive with performances from instrumentalists and vocalists. Audiences were treated to classical masterpieces, traditional melodies, and global sounds — from violin, piano, guitar, and Uzbekistan’s dutor, to vocal renditions of international hits.

The vocal and music jury included:

  • Joan Carles Capdevila Torné – Renowned arranger, composer, and studio singer, actively working in musical theatre, orchestration, and Spanish television productions like Operación Triunfo.
  • María Luz Martínez Farias – Celebrated soprano and Doctor of Art History, who has performed on prestigious stages worldwide and now shares her expertise as a professor at the University of Barcelona.
  • David Dzhaparidze – President of the Spanish festival committee Fiestalonia Milenio and Director of the Fiestalonia International Center in London. A respected figure in international competitions.

Dance Performances – Global Rhythms on Stage

After a dynamic musical session, the stage was taken over by dancers — both soloists and ensembles — from around the world. A new panel of dance professionals joined the jury to evaluate these incredible performances:

  • Jose Maria Lopez Santamaria – Dancer and choreographer trained in Barcelona, with international stage experience and current artistic director of the Baix Montseny Dance Competition.
  • Eugènia Mur – Jazz and tap dance specialist with a degree in Choreography and Dance Performance from the Conservatori Superior de Dansa de l’Institut del Teatre.
  • David Dzhaparidze

Spectators enjoyed:

  • Indian modern dance performances
  • Traditional Flamenco from Spain
  • Uzbek folklore
  • Indonesian national dances
  • Macedonian traditional dance
  • Latvian stage energy from mature performers who showed that age is never a limit to creativity
  • Colorful Lithuanian dances in beautiful costumes

Cultural Tours Across the Mediterranean

As part of the Mediterranean Legends program, participants spent their free time exploring some of the region’s most iconic destinations.

  • Barcelona: Visiting the Sagrada Família, Gaudí’s masterpieces, panoramic views from Mount Tibidabo, and more.
  • Girona + Dalí Tour: Exploring Girona’s medieval streets and experiencing Salvador Dalí’s surreal genius at his theatre-museum in Figueres.
  • Costa Brava by Sea: Boat trips from Lloret to Tossa de Mar allowed participants to enjoy the coast, bask in the early May sun, and relax on Mediterranean beaches.

Flamenco Masterclass

A highlight of the program was the Flamenco masterclass, open to all participants — not only dancers but also visual artists. The session was conducted by Yulia Kruglyak, the first Slavic flamenco performer in Spain. With 30 years of performance experience, she continues to inspire as a choreographer and international competition judge.

Grand Finale Gala Concert – Plaça de Pere Torrent

On the evening of May 4, the heart of Lloret de Mar — Plaça de Pere Torrent — turned into an open-air celebration of talent and passion. The Gala Concert featured the most vibrant and memorable performances from the festival, drawing crowds from across the city.
